Flooring Fitting Quotes
New floors change the feel of a room more than almost anything else. Compare quotes from fitters for supply and fit, or fitting only.

The quality of a floor comes down to two things: the product and the preparation underneath it. Even a premium engineered board will creak, gap or lift if it is laid over an uneven subfloor, which is why the best fitters spend as much time on levelling and underlay as on the boards themselves.
When you request quotes, say which rooms you want doing and roughly how big they are, what is on the floor now, and whether you want the fitter to supply the flooring or just lay flooring you have bought.
Flooring we can get quoted
Laminate
Hard-wearing and affordable, with realistic wood effects. A good choice for bedrooms, hallways and busy family rooms.
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT)
Water-resistant and warm underfoot, so ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. Available as click or glue-down.
Engineered wood
A real wood top layer on a stable core. Works with underfloor heating and can usually be sanded at least once.
Solid wood and parquet
Herringbone, chevron and traditional boards for period homes. Needs acclimatisation and skilled fitting.
Carpet
Fitted carpet with the right underlay for stairs, landings and bedrooms.
Subfloor preparation
Latex levelling, plywood overlays and damp-proof membranes so the new floor lasts.
Choosing the right floor for each room
Think about how each room is used. Kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms need something that copes with water, which rules out most laminate and solid wood. Hallways need to handle grit and wet shoes. Bedrooms can take softer finishes.
If you live in a flat, check your lease before laying hard flooring – many require acoustic underlay or specific sound insulation to protect neighbours below.

Things fitters will ask about
- Moisture: new screeds need time to dry before any floor goes down, and ground floors in older houses may need a damp-proof membrane.
- Underfloor heating: not every floor is compatible, and there are maximum surface temperatures to respect.
- Door clearances and thresholds: a thicker floor may mean trimming doors and adding new threshold strips.

What affects the price
- Subfloor condition
- Uneven concrete, loose floorboards or old adhesive residue all need sorting before the new floor goes down.
- Pattern and layout
- Herringbone and chevron take much longer to lay than straight boards and produce more waste.
- Room shape
- Lots of doorways, pipes and alcoves mean more cutting and more time.
- Stairs
- Stairs are usually priced per step and take considerably longer than open floor areas.
Comparing flooring quotes
- Check the quoted area and whether it includes a wastage allowance
- Confirm what underlay is included and whether it suits your room
- Ask whether uplifting and disposing of the old floor is included
- Check how thresholds, skirting and door trimming will be handled
- Ask about acclimatisation time for wood flooring

Flooring: frequently asked questions
How long does it take to fit a new floor?
A single room of laminate or click LVT can often be done in a day. Glue-down LVT, herringbone parquet and rooms needing subfloor levelling take longer.
Can I put wood flooring in a kitchen?
Engineered wood can work in a kitchen if it is sealed well and spills are wiped up quickly, but LVT is more forgiving. Solid wood is not usually recommended.
What flooring works with underfloor heating?
LVT, engineered wood and tiles generally work well. Check the manufacturer's guidance for the maximum temperature and the recommended underlay.
Do I need to move furniture before the fitters arrive?
Usually yes, unless you have agreed otherwise. Some fitters will move furniture for an extra charge.
